The data was mixed with headline inflation beating expectations, while core inflation missed forecasts. Nonetheless, it was skewed slightly more to the upside as both goods and services inflation ticked higher. Overall, it won’t change anything for the BoE at this point as the central bank wasn’t expected to cut rates at least until April, so there’s plenty of time to see how things evolve going forward.
AMERICAN SESSION
In the American session, all eyes will be on Davos as Trump delivers a speech at the World Economic Forum and meets with leaders about Greenland. Market participants will be on the lookout for potential de-escalation over Greenland as that would trigger a strong relief rally in risk assets. Traders will also need to be prepared for further escalation though as that would lead to another wave of risk aversion. Watch out for posts on Truth Social as well.
