The major European indices are closing the day mostly lower. The one exception is France’s CAC.
A snapshot of the closing levels shows:

- UK’s FTSE 100, -0.11%.
- Spain’s Ibex, -0.65%
- Italy’s FTSE MIB, -0.72%
Meanwhile in the US, the major indices have turned into positive territory and are trading near highs for the day.
- Dow industrial average is up 111 points or 0.25% at 45528.20
- S&P index is up 13.19 points or 0.20% at 6479.28.
- NASDAQ index is up 40.58 points or 0.19% at 21585.25
With the gains in the S&P index, it would represent a new record close for the index. The previous high close was at 6468.54.
The NASDAQ index is still a bit always from its record high close at 21713.14.
Looking at the US yields, they have come off of their highs but the yield curve remains more positive.
- 2-year yield 3.643%, -0.1 basis points
- 5 year yield 3.737%, unchanged
- 10 year yield 4.273%, +1.7 basis points
- 30 year yield 4.943%, +3.6 basis points.
The 2 – 30 year year spread as at 130 basis points. That is testing the high going back to January 4, 2022 near the same level.
The 2 – 10 year spread is at 63 basis points. The earlier this year on April 17, the spread extended up to 64.8 basis points
