South Korea’s military said it fired warning shots on Friday after a North Korean commercial vessel crossed into disputed waters west of the peninsula. The ship retreated after the South also issued verbal warnings, with the Joint Chiefs of Staff noting the response followed standard protocol.
The incident occurred near the Northern Limit Line, the de facto maritime border established after the 1950–53 Korean War
