Hassett says Trump is a lightweight on the Federal Reserve

Kevin Hassett, President Donald Trump’s chief economic adviser, pushed back on concerns that he would compromise Federal Reserve independence if appointed as the next Fed chair.

Speaking on CBS’s Face the Nation on Sunday, Hassett said the president would exert no influence over interest-rate decisions under his leadership, stressing that policy would remain driven by data and committee consensus.

Hassett said presidential views would only carry weight if grounded in sound economic analysis and able to withstand scrutiny from fellow policymakers
